 End of Watch (2012) review

If you've ever wondered what the cops in Los Angeles life's were like, this is the movie watch. It doesn't get more realistic than this. Though here's a fair warning, most of the conversation throughout the entire movie is filled with variations of the F-word. But otherwise, the flick had some rather powerful script writing resulting in great conversations. While there is a lot of violence throughout this movie and the language would make you want to wash your mouth out (and gargle) with soap, ultimately, it really is about friendship. Brian (Gyllenhaal) and Mike (Michael Peña) are long time partners and best buds.

They're two of the best cops in their division, winning medals and every other well deserved awards. Their daily lives revolves around constant danger and life threatening moments. However being the bad ass cops they are, they usually come out unscathed. But for how long will they keep this up, is what comes to mind. The crime streets of Los Angeles is ruthless is many ways. And director David Ayer has certainly portrayed this brilliantly. Drive by shootings, you say? No kidding.

This is almost what happens in Los Angeles on a daily basis. Ayer depicted everything in a spectacular and timely manner. What keeps you most entertained throughout End of Watch, is the quirky banter between Brian and Mike. Mike who is a Hispanic man true to his roots, makes endless fun of Brian who's a white boy, just looking for the perfect woman to settle down with. Sure, End of Watch might have some of the crudest language ever seen on the big screen, still there is so much emotions felt throughout the movie and several nail biting scenes will distract you from all the flowery language. End of Watch is like watching Criminal Minds, NYPD Blue, LA Law all packed in once great action movie.
